Who this workbook is for
This book is for children aged 3 to 6: preschoolers who are working on 1 to 5 or 1 to 10, and kindergarteners who are ready for the numbers up to 20. Children usually learn to say the counting words first, then match them to objects, and only then learn to write the numerals. The book follows the same order: count the pictures, trace the number, then write it in the box.
To make extra pages for one number, a bigger range or different layouts, use our number tracing worksheets. The guide on How to Teach a Child to Write Numbers 1 to 10 explains the stroke for each digit.

Numbers 1 to 5 (pages 4–9)
Five count pages and one tracing sheet. Each count page has the numeral and its number word in big dotted letters, a group of pictures to count and color (one sun, two ducks, three stars, four apples, five fish) and a box where your child writes how many. The set ends with a full page of ten dotted rows, 1 2 3 4 5, each starting at a green arrow.
Numbers 6 to 10 (pages 10–15)
Six flowers, seven butterflies, eight balloons, nine ladybugs and ten cats. From six upward the pictures sit in rows of five, so your child can see that 10 is “two fives” and does not have to recount from the start. A “Trace Numbers 6 to 10” sheet follows.
Numbers 11 to 15 (pages 16–21)
Teen numbers are where many children get stuck: eleven and twelve do not sound like “one-ten” and “two-ten”, and the order of the digits can feel backwards. There are leaves, balls, hearts, pears and kites to count in rows of five, then a tracing page that sets each numeral beside its word.
Numbers 16 to 20 (pages 22–27)
Bees, cars, lemons, bells and strawberries. Twenty strawberries fill four neat rows of five, a good picture of “four fives”. The set closes with a tracing page for 16 to 20 with number words.
Number Words and Skip Counting (pages 28–31)
One page of the number words from one to ten, then three skip counting pages: count by 2s up to 20, by 5s up to 50 and by 10s up to 100. Skip counting is an early step toward multiplication, and the rhythm is fun to chant while tracing.

How to use this workbook
Print the pages you need
Choose US Letter or A4 and print at 100% (Actual size). Start with Numbers 1 to 5 only; the rest can wait until your child is confident.
Count together first
Touch each picture once while you count aloud. Ask “how many are there?” before any writing, and count again to check.
Trace the numeral and the word
Use a pencil. Let your child say the number name as the pencil follows the dots.
Color and write the answer
Color the pictures (one color per picture is a good way to avoid counting the same one twice), then write the number in the box.
Connect it to real life
Count stairs, spoons or snacks in the same session. The page and the real world should match.
Help with teen numbers
Some teachers say “ten and three” beside “thirteen” so that children hear the pattern behind the word. The rows of five on the count pages for 11 to 20 support the same idea: two full rows of five and three more is thirteen.
Use the dotted numerals as a shape guide only. If your child forms a digit differently, a gentle reminder is better than an eraser. For a broader plan of the first number skills, see the guide on How to Teach a Child to Write Numbers 1 to 10.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Number Tracing Book free to print?
Yes. It is free for use at home and in the classroom, with no sign-up. You may print as many copies as you need for your own children or students, but please do not sell the file or host it on another website.
Do the pictures match the numbers?
Yes. Every count page shows exactly the number of pictures named at the top, so your child can check their count against the numeral.
Can we do just 1 to 10?
Yes. The first two sections (Numbers 1 to 5 and Numbers 6 to 10) cover 1 to 10 on their own. Check the contents table for the page numbers and print only that range.
Does the book show how to form each digit?
The tracing sheets start each row with a green arrow, and the dotted numerals show the shape. For the stroke order of every digit, read the guide on teaching number writing linked below.
What comes after the numbers to 20?
Our number tracing worksheets can make pages for any range up to 1000, including the ready-made number tracing 1-20 and 1 to 100.
